stillpoint - resources for the burned out
« on: October 09, 2006, 05:25:26 AM »

Hello,

Sometimes people need help to stay inspired when the world has worn them out.

I'd like to introduce this web site:  www.stillpointmeditation.org.uk

I suffered 'burnout' in the late 90's leading to a severe illness I have now more or less recovered from.  I made conscious changes in my life, seeking simplification, slowing down, and changing my priorities.  I began learning meditation, and knew I couldn't be alone in wanting to stop the crazy pace of life which a deep part of me was now rebelling against and which had rendered me so very ill. There are different estimates about how much illness presented to GPs today is stress related, but it's huge, and it's not getting any better.

I founded Stillpoint as a self help network of people across the UK, many beginners learning to meditate during illness and sharing resources, 'inspiration' and experiences.  Postal membership had to cease in 2003 due to lack of manpower (yes, we were all too knackered) but we now have a web site and online community.

Part of the site, 'meditation help' looks particularly at slowing down and mindfulness techniques.

Altho we have Buddhist resources and lending library our approach is interfaith and the main point -as it were - is to share resources on the path to finding the still point.  We have a disabled friendly site design and are always looking for volunteers to help reach patient and faith groups on our behalf, as well as to maintain the site and e-newsletter.
