I think I'm in the "other" hemisphere, can I join you too?
We're a 50-something professional couple, decided to live every day the way other people pay money to live on vacation. Sold our house and most of our 'stuff', bought a boat. Live aboard full-time in Washington, D.C. area.

Hi there, I have just found this forum and am pleased others are looking for answers as much as I am. For the past 7 years since the birth of my second child we have been slowing down our lives in order to spend lots of quality time with our kids and trying to get rid of the stress that seems to plague modern life. We sold off our trucking business, and I gave up my IT job. We have a long way to go, but the stress has mostly gone. We live quite simply, as best we can on the little money we bring in, growing some of our own vegetables, keeping chickens, heating our home and hot water with wood, and living off whatever we can based at home, which includes two holiday cottages we rent our to tourists on our small property (one we built with recycled house parts quite recently), selling tree seeds (LOL), and trading bits and pieces.
Looking forward to others ideas.
Fern

Yes great Forum. You know I have been sort of pushed in a direction to take a fairly pressurised job (I live in England) Anyway when I moved away from the position offered the boss wanted to know the real reason for my lack of interest despite probably being capable of doing the job. I simply stated. I'm happy, iv'e no desire for the nice company car just to get stuck in the same traffic jam, and whats the point in earning more money...I will only spend it!
With my current job I know I willl be able to spend time with family rather than stuck in the office making the company richer. I have zero stress I'm richer!

I just found this place myself a few days ago. I've been considering downshifting for the past few years, and it looks like I will be able to get my chance soon. There doesn't seem to be much activity in here, but I'm hoping that it will pick up soon. Then again, Slow Living and CyberForums probably don't go hand-in-hand. Anyhow, I am glad that I found this resource, and hope that I can contribute.
